Mother's Day is celebrated in the United States on the second Sunday in May. It is a chance for each of us to honor our mothers in a special way. The origin of Mother's Day is difficult to pin-point. Some say Mother's Day originated in ancient Greece. In the United States, Mother's Day was originally conceived by social activist Julia Ward Howe during the American Civil War with a call to unite women against war in 1870. A proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day was signed by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson on May 14, 1914.
